Municipal Development Plan

The County's draft Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is taking shape. Policies have been drafted to address such topics as:

  • Protection of agricultural operations and preservation of agricultural lands
  • Commercial and in industrial development
  • Rural subdivision
  • Transportation and municipal services
  • Environmental protection and water management
  • Country residential development

The draft policies are based on the input received from residents in the community workshops and survey that were conducted in the fall, as well as a review of best practices, and the requirements of provincial legislation. The draft policies are available for review on the Get Involved page.

In order to give County residents an opportunity to review the draft policies, a series of open houses were held (see schedule of events below or Get Involved page). Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback on the draft policies at the open houses, via email or online.

The MDP is the key document guiding County Council’s decisions about future growth and development on all lands (except Crown land) in the County. Feedback received from county residents will help the County develop a MDP that will make Red Deer County a great place to live, work, play and grow, both now and in the future.

Thank you to everyone who provided their ideas and comments at the Community Workshops held throughout the County in late October and early November 2011 and completed a Community Survey – your feedback is important and appreciated.

All County residents, businesses, and community groups have a stake in the County's future. We hope you will visit this site regularly and provide your feedback as the MDP is being updated.
